Online Media Literacy In-Person

The League of Women Voters of Kansas City will present a media literacy program. The program is designed to allow voters to fight disinformation. In the 90 minute program they use examples and guided practice, in which they will educate participants on how to efficiently (in less than five minutes) evaluate online media using identified skills. The skills relate to three key questions about online news media:

  • Who is the source?
  • What is the claim?
  • What do others on the web say about the source and the claim?

The 90 minute sessions consist of about 30 minutes of instruction, about 15 minutes of guided practice and about 15 minutes where participants share their fact-checking results. Because this is a hands-on format we ask participants to bring their own laptops.

Registration is required.
